Which Acatenango Overnight Tour?

An Acatenango volcano overnight tour leaves Antigua in the morning, climbs to a base camp across from Fuego, spends the night there in a cabin or tent, and goes up to the 3,976 m summit for sunrise before the walk down. The tour with that very name, Tours & Activities SA’s Acatenango Volcano Overnight Tour (2 Days and 1 Night), is from US$90 a person (checked November 2026): transport from Antigua, a guide in Spanish and English, three meals and hot drinks, and an A-frame cabin with a sleeping bag, mattress and pillow. The park entrance, water, gear and the Fuego trip are not in the price.

The Night, the Price and What Is Left Out

How the night runs, what Tours & Activities SA's price covers, what you pay on top, and what the low reviews complain about.

How the night runs

Map of the area west of Antigua Guatemala: the road from Antigua Guatemala to the Acatenango park entrance near La Soledad, 21.7 km by road, with the summits of Acatenango (3,976 m) and Fuego (3,763 m) south of the entrance, Agua, and the road to San Vicente Pacaya and Pacaya to the south-east
The overnight tours start in Antigua and walk up from the park entrance near La Soledad, 21.7 km by road. Acatenango (3,976 m) and Fuego (3,763 m) stand side by side to the south.

On Tours & Activities SA’s tour you meet your guide in Antigua (the tour started at 7:30 AM on 20 January 2027, the date we read it) and ride to the trailhead. The trail climbs with views over the mountains and valleys, and lunch is eaten on the way up.

At base camp there is sunset over the mountains, dinner facing Fuego and the night in an A-frame cabin, with a sleeping bag, a mattress and a pillow. How active Fuego is varies from day to day; INSIVUMEH, the national volcano observatory, publishes a daily bulletin.

In the morning comes the sunrise and breakfast at base camp; the sunrise summit hike is in the price. Then the trek back to La Soledad and the bus to Antigua.

What the price covers, and what it leaves out

The US$90 a person was the same for one adult and for two on 20 January and 10 March 2027; 27 November 2026 had no availability, and the next date on sale was 29 November (checked November 2026). It buys:

  • transport from and to Antigua;
  • a professional bilingual guide;
  • lunch, dinner and breakfast, and hot drinks;
  • a night in an A-frame cabin with a sleeping bag, a mattress and a pillow;
  • the sunrise summit hike.

Not included:

  • The park entrance. The Municipality of Acatenango, which runs the park, charges a foreign visitor Q100 (quetzales) and a Guatemalan Q25 (Municipality of Acatenango, checked November 2026).
  • Water and gear. Bring your own water; gear can be rented through the operator, arranged by WhatsApp, along with vegetarian meals.
  • Fuego. The evening trip towards Fuego is left out of the price, with no figure. CONRED, Guatemala’s disaster-reduction agency, said on 9 August 2026 that the ascent of Fuego is not authorized (Emisoras Unidas). The Fuego add-on sets out what each tour charges for it.

What is included lines this tour up against nine others, item by item.

The same name on Viator

OX Expeditions' Acatenango Volcano Overnight Tour on Viator, from US$109 (checked November 2026), shares the title but is a different tour. It meets at OX Expeditions’ office a few blocks north-west of the central park in Antigua, holds a briefing the day before, serves breakfast at a restaurant before the hike, lends warm clothes, a head torch and a sleeping-bag liner free, and puts you in cabins with windows facing Fuego. Hotel pickup and the hike to Fuego are not included. Its calendar for November and December 2026 showed departures on Mondays and Thursdays only.

What reviewers mention

Tours & Activities SA’s tour has 1,029 reviews on GetYourGuide at an average of 4.5. We read the 350 newest, posted between 4 March and 5 November 2026: 251 give five stars and 49 give three or fewer. Of the 31 low ones with any text, 16 complain about the cabin, the bedding or the cold at night, 15 about the guides, and 12 about the food or a dietary request that was ignored. Four, all from March 2026, describe groups of 37 to 72 people. Four say the group did not go up for the sunrise as planned.

Before you book

  • Access. CONRED restricted the ascent of Acatenango on 4 August 2026, during an eruption of Fuego; operators were selling dates in November 2026 when we checked. Check CONRED and INGUAT, Guatemala’s tourism institute, before you go.
  • Your details. The operator needs your passport number and a real mobile number for its WhatsApp groups.
  • Who it is not for. People with back or heart problems or epilepsy, and people over 115 kg. No sandals or flip-flops.
  • Cancelling. Every GetYourGuide tour here can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before, and you can reserve now and pay later.
